Sea Change Announces the Release of Version 2.0 of BookWhere 2000

TORONTO (December 1, 1997) - Sea Change has today released a major upgrade to BookWhere 2000. This cutting edge 32-bit application for Windows 95 and NT sets a new standard in Internet search and retrieval and integration with third party products.

BookWhere?-2000 is a Windows based client application that allows users to search large information databases on the Internet using the NISO Z39.50 protocol (version 3 - 1995). Customer driven enhancements made since its original release in March 1997 fall into four categories: standards; user interface; compatibility; and engineering enhancements.

Standards

Among the new features are support for SUTRS (Simple Unstructured Text Record Syntax) and enhanced support for GRS-1 (Generic Record Syntax) which both provide for full text delivery. The product now meets the Z39.50 version 3 baseline requirement and is fully compliant with the Government Information Locator Service (GILS).

User Interface

BookWhere incorporates a unique record analysis capability. This feature allows users to dynamically group records by any field in the retrieved records and quickly identify records of interest. Selected fields in retrieved records are now "hyper-linked" allowing the user to initiate a second level search with the click of a mouse. Other features include smarter sorting, record deletion, media type icons and improved host/target management.

Compatibility

The "Fast Export" capabilities (which eliminate file export/import operations) have been extended to the latest versions of Research Information Systems products, ProCite version 4.0 and Reference Manager version 8.1. Support for many other bibliographic export formats have been added. These include Citation 7, Ibid, Refer, InMagic, ProCite and Reference Manager formats.

Engineering

BookWhere? takes advantage of the Windows 95/NT operating system to provide multi-threaded simultaneous database searching. Connections to remote databases are maintained providing for very fast second and subsequent searches. Multimedia capabilities are provided through integration with Netscape and Microsoft Web browsers.

"Bookwhere is being used by thousands of researchers and librarians world-wide. This release incorporates the features our users requested, and more. BookWhere is the essential research tool for all types of professionals." says John Alsop, President, Sea Change Corporation.

A pre-release of this software was recently reviewed by Biblio Tech (www.biblio-tech.com) and received the highest overall rating.
