Brief History

Founded in 1986, Sea Change began by providing open source products and services for UNIX and TCP/IP networks. In 1989 we released our TCP/IP Plus product. As a result of our involvement in TCP/IP marketplace in the early 90's, Sea Change developed expertise in internetworking security. This lead to Sea Change becoming one of the founders of Border Network Technologies Inc, developers of the industry leading BorderWare Firewall Server .

In the early 1990's, Sea Change became a company of networking specialists, focused on system integration, network design and security. With the explosive growth of the Internet, Sea Change supplied equipment and technical support to hundreds of Canadian ISPs.

In 1995, Sea Change launched BookWhere , a Window's based search and retrieval client which searches databases for bibliographic data using the open standard Z39.50 protocol.

In 1996, Sea Change developed a distributed authentication technology to facilitate Internet roaming for mobile users and founded iPass , whose mission was to build a global network based on this technology. iPass's Roamserver allowed corporations to take control of providing global Internet roaming for their staff. iPass is now headquartered in Redwood Shores, Calif., and is the global leader in internet roaming solutions.

In March of 1999, Sea Change acquired Interwork Technologies , a niche distributor focusing on eBusiness, connectivity and security.

In April of 2000, Sea Change divested of both its internetworking equipment division and its network and security management division.

In January of 2003, Sea Change acquired iRoam Mobile Solutions Inc. from Qnetix Inc. iRoam is a leading Canadian supplier of global Internet connectivity solutions for mobile computers – based on the iPass network.

In May 2003, Sea Change formed a new subsidiary - WebClarity Software Inc. WebClarity took over all of Sea Change's software products for the library and research communities.

In August 2004, Sea Change divested of WebClarity to Convergent Library Technologies Inc. (www.clibtech.com).
